The EU packaging regulation requires technical documentation for every piece of packaging: material composition, recycled content, recyclability, substance tests, target markets and a signed declaration. WellPack supplies thousands of different items to customers across Switzerland and into the EU. Documenting each one by hand was not an option.
Item data existed in the ERP as item number, description, supplier and supplier item number. The data the EU packaging regulation requires was scattered across data sheets, grade lists and supplier documents. Customers had started to ask for the documentation – for thousands of items.
Items, suppliers and customer item numbers are taken over from the existing Excel exports into ERPNext. An AI identifies the material, reads the PPWR data from data sheets and grade lists and states how confident it is in every value. A second AI checks the result: only what stays uncertain goes to manual review, and values corrected by hand are never overwritten by the AI again. Each material gets its own technical documentation with WellPack's letterhead and signature, in German, French or English as required. The export tool delivers a ZIP per customer with one PDF covering all purchased items, or an Excel export on request.
About two months passed from the first idea to productive use. WellPack now documents PPWR data per item instead of per request, specialists review only the cases the AI flags as uncertain, and customers receive their documents as a finished package.
